Newsletters are one of the best ways to connect with clients. I use my monthly newsletter to send updated information, deals and freebies, and fun little tips and tricks. But I wanted something that would stand out among all the other newsletters that flood my clients’ inboxes on a daily basis. I wanted something that would give them a unique experience so they would remember me. At first, I tried creating a newspaper-like experience with a PDF, but that was bulky and not easy to navigate. Then one day, I got an email from a newsletter I’m subscribed to. They had a new feature. They didn’t call their newsletters ‘newsletters’ anymore. They called them ‘magazines’. I clicked the link in the email and lo and behold, it really was a magazine! The experience was just like reading one of my favorite magazines, just on the computer. It even flipped pages like I would have, right down to the sound of rustling paper. So let me tell you how to make a flipbook online!

Enter Flipbooks

After a bit of research, I discovered that these magazine-like creations are called Flipbooks. When I was a kid, a flipbook was a collection of pictures that, when fluttered really fast, looked like a movie, but this new computer flipbook was definitely not that. These are quite literally magazines that provide all the experience of paper without waste. Of course, the very next thing I did was figure out how to make a flipbook.

Flipbooks looks complicated and I was afraid it would be beyond my ability to produce, but they are surprisingly easy and, even better, absolutely free. I found several places that offer quality flipbooks that are super easy to make. This list is by no means exhaustive. These are just the sites I tested out while doing my research. I recommend you try a few different sites and find the one that works the best for you.

Create Your PDF

Every site I looked at when learning how to make a flipbook required a PDF. PDFs are great for this because they have all the important information in all the right places with no extra junk thrown in the background like with Word or other formats.

To create your own PDF, the easiest way is to use Word or another word processor program. You can easily import images and add text where necessary. Make sure each page is set up exactly as you want it to appear in your HTML5 flipbook. Make sure you include a cover, copyright information, a table of contents, and anything else you wish to have in your flipbook. Once you have everything set up exactly as you want it to be, go to FILE, then click SAVE AS. Choose where to save your file and give it a name. Under “Save as type”, choose PDF(*.pdf). Then click SAVE.

How To Make A Flipbook in 3 easy steps

Now that you have your PDF, you’re ready to create your flipbook. Go to your chosen site. Some sites, like epagecreator, offer a free trial. Others, like FlipSnack, let you upload directly. Again, decide what you want from your flipbook and choose accordingly. When you’re ready, either activate your free trial or click on the option to upload your PDF. Each site varies slightly on how you’ll upload, but they all require a PDF and do essentially the same thing. Follow their instructions.

When you’re done, you should have a nifty new flipbook that you can share with the world. Many of the sites will now ask you for a title and description of your flipbook so that they can make it public. Depending on what you intend to do with your flipbook, you may or may not want to do this. Make sure you read carefully to know exactly what you’re agreeing to if you do decide to make it public.

Other Uses For Flipbooks

Flipbooks aren’t just to create magazines to share in a newsletter. They can be used for numerous other things, as well. They are a great way to create children’s books, for example or even ebooks. They can be used to provide employees with easy-to-follow online training manuals. Sharing family vacation photos is a cinch with a well-designed flipbook and will save hundreds on printing costs. Business brochures and catalogs are a snap. They can even be used to make private company reports easier to read and more attractive.
